We have a black spider that has the same markings in our greenhouse. I think it may be a false widow - not sure.

It looks like a parasitic wasp but is unclear, the kind that behave like cuckoo's laying their eggs in Mason Bee boxes .. ..

It's too bad the wasp crossed paths with something as beneficial as it is... and lost. I wonder if the wasp was trying to victimize the spider? ... I've heard that some parasitic wasps actually lay their eggs in a host...usually some type of catarpiller.

thanks 3d and Kate! Mount Hood is a fab daff. and very hardy to survive our winters. I wish it was spreading faster but it's holding it's own and the clumps are gradually getting larger. has a nice scent too. (glad I didn't stick my nose in that particular flower!)
