Leptodermis parvifolia - 2020 (Leptodermis parvifolia)

From freebie seeds, sown three years ago, I appear to have grown a scrawny, three feet foot tall, Chinese shrub with tiny, scented flowers. Obviously needs sun as another seedling, planted in part shade doesn't have any buds

It's an "interesting" plant rather than a thing of beauty. But as it doesn't take up much room, it's staying for now

looks like it's blossom is on older wood. would a judicious trim help it become more compact? do the flowers come from the terminal bud of the last season?

Lori - there is remarkably little information on this plant, so I'm learning by trial and error.
It prefers full sun and I think it needs hot weather to coax it into flower. We had a very mild winter here but there was still a lot of dieback. Once it started to shoot, I cut it back to tidy it up but without going too far back into the old wood.
