9899 grape ivy... recovering from flea beetles.

Looks like it’s recovered very well, looking lush and healthy too! I’ve googled this one, Lori. Think it’d be an indoor plant for us?

Perhaps, Kate... but more likely an invasive species! It survives our terrible winters and has produced grapes on the sunny side of the porch. The birds love it. I've had it so long that my memory of it's beginnings is hazy, but I seem to recall that it's a Concord Grape. it's native to eastern NA. and produces a small purple round fruit that tends to sourness, but is great for jams and jellies. I even had a pileated woodpecker rattling around in the vines at the porch window! ...now there's a riddle for you~ I thought those birds ate insects! I planted it in the town garden and when we moved (in early winter) I brought only a few small grapes with me. the next spring I was scrambling to get my plants in the ground and found the withered dried up grapes... in disgust at my forgetfulness I just opened the porch door and threw them down on the rocks beside the steps.. the rest is grape history! lol..

Thank you for relaying a very interesting part of your gardening history, Lori. I’m certainly learning a lot, it’s good to know what grows and survives in other places, not just at home. I think you do a fantastic job with your garden and all your land. Hard work, but it’s well rewarding for you. :-)
