a brilliant capture; though I think it is probably a hover fly going by the eyes. Harmless thankfully.

I hope you don't mind me 'correcting' your id Klahanie. daughter has lots of id guides due to her wildlife conservation degree and as a biologist myself I once tried to id hoverflies in the garden. I gave up as the UK has about 220 different species.

As you will see from the moth trapping we have done some need dissecting for definitive id, the same for hover flies.

We also have individual guides [uk] for butterflies, bees, wasps, dragonflies, ladybirds, hoverflies, shieldbugs and a few others that I cant remember.

I never stop learning and and I love it and I always assume others do too.
