Coming into flower. The bud looks like a ball but opens as a spike.

yes we do have a lot of plants in common don't we Siris.
Yours will get like this but probably next year Kate.
Due to all the shade I had to source plants and I didn't want just ferns and hostas, hence the more unusual plants.

Grew it from seed and have just one left in the garden which threw up a puny flower last year, so am hoping for Great Things this summer. (Not holding my breath!).
