Thanks Kate. The strong winds lately stripped most of the leaves off of the Horse Chestnut and the Elms but the Copper Beech is hanging onto its leaves!
Shirley, Beech leaves take forever to rot down don’t they. It’s a pain when they fall into your garden from someone else’s. There are 2 large Horse Chestnut trees overhanging our top garden and I am regularly digging out saplings from the conkers in my borders. I think the squirrels must bury them.:>(

Hb, there was a time when I would have removed loads of them from the beds and borders - now that the back shrub area has chipped bark over it I shall not bother! Life's too short for some gardening tasks . . . :o))
Squirrels . . . cute to watch but a real pest at times!

Since we changed our bird feeders to Wilkos squirrel resistant ones the squirrels have given up trying to get to the sunflower seed. Hooray!! I think their revenge is to bury conkers in all the borders!!
I leave the leaves in the shrubbery too. I’d need a month of Sunday’s to clear them all…

Hb, does that mean they'll be digging the conkers up over Winter . . . :o(

I think they must forget where they have put them because come spring conker saplings spring up a long way from the trees. They probably prefer my spring bulbs :-o
