Note the smoke - this is the bonfire we were having in next door's garden where we have got the use of a third of his land!

We don't normally like having bonfires and we had intended to take everything to the council amenity site. However, when faced with the amount of rubbish we were clearing and realising the distance we would have to cart it in bins (we also have 6 steps up into our garage) we decided there must be an easier way. Much of the foliage was weeds that we wouldn't want to compost. We lit up at 10.30 pm and rekindled it next night, too. So there wasn't too much disturbance to visitors in the park behind.

The guidelines from our council are that you are "reasonable" -
* none of your neighbours have a line full of washing
* there’s very little wind
* it isn’t a day when your neighbours will wish to sit in their gardens or have windows open
* all the material is dry and will burn quickly
* you do so very rarely
