We've only grown tomatoes the last two seasons and will be planting this year's shortly. Fortunately, we haven't had any infestation problems except some white-flies early last year before planting.
They are grown in a well ventilated, sunny location which is somewhat shelthered so there is only a minimal chance it would be contaminated by any airborne polutants.. I'm also very careful to water only right at ground level and not get water on the leaves.
I'm, not sure if any of the above has kept our tomatoes from becoming infected, or if that problem just isn't common here, but so far they've been ok.
