I like sprouts as well , but don,t seem to be very good at growing them , my father always said the ground should be stamped down hard for sprouts , i,m not sure if that was true or not !!!

This is my first time growing them, so I'm guessing a bit. Now I have a problem - I always thought you harvested them in the winter after they had had a bit of frost on them. But some of my sprouts are now about the size of tennis balls! I don't know whether to pick them before they get any bigger! For xmas dinner we will be having 'a slice of sprout' each I think at this rate!!!

I like that Syd , I think you had better pick them before they are like footballs LOL
I thought you had to have a frost on them for the best taste as well , I suppose if they are good solid hard sprout they will be alright to leave longer , if not put them in the freezer ( that is a frost , isn,t it ) . !!

Yes, I suppose putting them in the freezer would be just the same really!

I wish.
We do have a few donated plants from my lovely nextdoor neighbour, brilliant gardener, Ms W.
However, they've now grown over/out of their pigeonproof netting I've noticed, due to my shameful negligence. No other word for it. Not sure what to do. I spose I should disentangle them, cut the netting off, and re-net. What a hassle.
My husband is a big sprout fan. Luckily we can buy v good ones from the farm shop, and were just growing a couple out of curiosity. 2 years ago, our homemade Christmas card was a peeled, crossed raw sprout, in front of dark red woollen (!) background, becos I felt it embodied the spirit of a UK Christmas.
Sorry to anyone who is despairing of my sanity by now. Pity my family!
