Arbutus unedo, the Strawberry tree.

I first saw this plant at horticultural college whilst doing the RHS course in 2004 and decided to get one for the garden. This photo was taken on 30 November 2007, about 6 months after planting, it's size has doubled and it is flowering. It is an unusual plant in that you can have flowers and fruit on the tree virtually all year round and the fruits are edible, if you can get there before the birds! A mature specimen can grow to about 10 meters but it will take pruning and clipping.
Behind it are the leaves of Lonicera henryi, an evergreen honeysuckle and the fluffy seed heads of Clematis tangutica.
