I've never started a begonia from seed... How do you go about doing that?

The seed is like red dust... I treat it the same way I do for saintpaulia...makes sure all the medium is sterile...rehydrate if necessary... (mix should contain some sand) sow the seed on the surface, cover to maintain moisture, place in a relatively bright spot and check the soil surface with a magnifying glass after 5 days...the new plants are extremely tiny...just a little green dot...( it may take more like 8 or 10 days..but be sure to keep undercover of glass or plastic until they are larger) a little bottom heat, as with most seedlings, helps things along.

Begonia Boliviensis Bonfire!!! mine is beginning to shut down...I have seed from mine too...I hope it isn't sterile like some popular var. are these days. I hung mine in the lower branches of a larch and it was a bonfire for a while! I'm taking extra good care of it and hope I have enough plant material left to start it again in spring...
