I planted some ranunculus that never came up in the area...could this be it?????

I believe you are right, Hywel....I was thinking, I never planted this, but looked it up and prunella did ring a bell, a pack of seeds that I bought last year....I'm pretty happy with it, anyway...thanks!

I don't think so. It looks like Self Heal or a close relation.
