our rather large pond, packed with water lilies and other water plants, not sure how to look after this properly yet, lots of reading coming up I think

Spectacular! Aren't you clever to design it and plant it so well. I am jealous of the space you have - my garden is so tiny, about the size of yours that can be seen in this picture.
