lovely wall, are the stones local?

I'm going to confess to what is probably a crime! We built the wall over 20 years ago and the stones came from a beach about 30 miles away. We made several journeys to collect all these otherwise the car would have been the price we paid for the stones.
Is it a crime? There was no sign saying Don't take the stones off the beach. Please be assured I wouldn't do it now because probably/maybe it is a crime.
