Jacque I think they hibernate for winter and the butterfly comes out in the spring.

Very nice Jacque.I had a chrysalis attached to my water butt all through the winter last year and was hoping to see what came out of it but it hatched before I saw it so couldn't identify it.Hope yours enjoys the winter in the warmth

Aye Jacque he ll spin a little silk thread round himself which then sets as cocoon forms.If you look at top of pic think threads already starting.
