This is a wonderful fungus, T&T. I've only once seen one of these before - and that was growing at the base of some conifers at the top of a wooded hill where the soil was very thin and quite acidic I would think. You're lucky to have one in your garden! Such alien-looking things arnt they....

This too is growing at the base of some conifers. it is damp here so i have my tree ferns planted just in front of the conifers.

Something to treasure - can't buy THAT in a gardencentre! I wonder if it will come back next year?
