Yes. I was concerned that when they were filming we would be snapping the stems of begonias in full bloom - they had been wonderfully colourful until just two days before. As it turned out, there was absolutely no question that they had to be removed! We wouldn't normally have left them so long but I don't think they've come to any harm.
I worked until 7pm this evening (wearing a head torch) and, having removed the begonias, put some cabbages, caulis etc. in the large pots of compost and added some long acting fertilizer. This will be an experiment. I had hoped to be able to dig over the ground for a veg patch - but time has run out! The soil is very heavy clay - all sticky and gooey!

all this was caused by snow?

The temperature plunged to -4C. We would normally have moved the plants before the frost but we had to wait for the Television crew to photograph. So the plants were more slimy that we would have wanted. They shouldn't be harmed, though. We normally take off the stems and store the tubers in dry compost for the winter.

good grief!... now i can understand why all the rush to save the plants during winter
