Thanks , I have much more respect for this genus than I did in the 90's . A certain amount of native plant enthusiasts over here are giving mahonia a bad name due to the copius amount of berries . M. bealei is banned some places . While others are doing extensive breeding and yes with bealei for hardiness . Maekajaad ( sorry I can't remember how her name was spelled ) has some great pics of 'Lionel Fortescue' . I have seen some large lomarifola , mmmmm leaflets .

Can't wait to see mine bloom and produce berries. I planted my first one, about a month ago. It's small, only about a foot tall. Your's looks great !
