Full Moon North

Full Moon North

A little more northwest but still getting there. No more setting. I didn't get any good pics out in the hills, so here she is above a little coffe stand. :-)

Heard about this full moon - Because it is following an elliptical course it was much closer to earth and much much brighter. Looked out here but we were so cloudy couldn't even see it. Thank you for posting this picture. Really beautiful.

Dry Arctic sky, Marguerite. This moon and maybe the next, it is seen on the north horizon, never sets because of its angle. A welcome light as the sun slips away.

lol, very true! Our 24 hour moon isn't mentioned much. This time of year, time slips away and its dark and the moon circles, a little otherworldly. Glad its not really cold, so far.

What do you mean by 'not really cold' Greenthumb? We have 10 celsius (50 fahrenheit) here today. Now that is 'not really cold'. Lol.

Oh, we can have a cold snap, thats a week or more never above -20 so nights can be -50. Sometimes three weeks of that. Cold years that happens a few times. Still not the killer on plants, early melt will freeze off new buds. Thats what does them in.

That is what sets in cabin fever, people never going outside for a few weeks......

My cabin is just stacked up 6inch log with fiberglass insulation pressed between each. I heat with a deisel space heater, uses just 1 1/2 gallon a day on those really cold days. I'm supplementing with a radiant electric heater that keeps the temp up longer so the deisel doesn't burn as fast.

Have you figured out the early melt? If it goes above freeze early, non arctic plants will start up and then the temp goes back to normal and freezes the spring growth, kills them off more often than not. I get cold frames up over them early spring when the snow clears, to make a regulated micro clime that holds the heat in. I've had wonderful results. I'll try blogging the process when it comes.
