Oh Arlene , how ever did you clean it off ... I can just imagine you swatting the bees and wasps off at the same time..... LOL ........

~Fortunately it was not a full tin~ gas from fermenting sugars blew the lid as soon as I touched it~

Now what did I start oh my! wait a minute it was Gilli! lol! sorry about the mess could you get it scraped off ? You Goy's are too too funny just reading your posts! LMAO!
Thanks that is it oh how I remember that label! I do not remember the red one and never in glass so if you had the green on the red tin that would be it!
This is just like Christmas I'm so excited really I am. I have a glass jar of Marmite. It still comes in glass but the lid is now plastic when it used to be tin. and the jar has changed slightly. If I can recall it was more squarish shape with sharper corners but still budgie round.

Gilli almost had the jingle correct! how she thought the lion was dead? well could be something from her childhood so long long ago, ancient history!
I'm going to go tin shopping and see if I can get a tin of Lyles.

That's the one Amy. Thanks for posting a pic.
Ha ha ha, Pinky. Not THAT long ago. But I still say that is a dead lion. The story has something to do with bees making honeycomb in the lion carcass. Arrrrgggghhhh. I should have paid more attention in Sunday School. LOL.

~ you are right Gilli~the tin has had that on it since 1885 and it is a dead lion.and the quotation is 'Out of the strong came forth sweetness' and is from the bible by Samson.

You mean it is not sleeping? You have crushed my thoughts of preadolescence. I for ever will be damaged. Then there should be flies looking for a place to lay not bees!

Samson ! I knew it was a bible story. Thank you Arlene. I think they should make that a question on Trivial Pursuit. LOL.

"Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs" I never knew it was a dead lion with bees abound.
