Also known as Chinese Witch Hazel. They remind me of yellow spiders. We had a Chimonanthus some years ago and, yes you're quite right, Amy their smell is lovely too and the yellow is the same. But I think the HM is a different shrub. It's lovely having sweet smelling Winter shrubs isn't it?

Thanks MT , my Chimonanthus has been flowering for a long time it,s almost finished now proberly is with this frost . , it,s about 10ft tall .
And yes it is lovely to have something that smells so nice in the winter , yours has very nice bunches of blooms on it .. :o)

Odd how plants in different parts of the country react/behave. Our HM started to come out about 10 days before Christmas. We then, as we do every Christmas, cut some for indoors and by the big day the house was filled with the most gorgeous scent. Somerset and Hampshire are, by comparison to Norfolk, much warmer and our shrub seems to thrive in the cold - and it faces north! Our shrub is 40 years old - perhaps the older the tougher!
