Plant in left of pic, was given to me by my mum, not sure what it is, but established itself very quickly, also in back of garden.

The one next to it, looks a bit like a aloe vera in the summer. I know it's not, and a long shoot orange or red in colour comes through the middle of plant.

Any suggestions pls, cos I am really embarassed!

Hi Sunday (my fave day)
The keen-growing plant looks like buddleia. It has sweet scented flower spikes, prob white or purple. They say it attracts butterflies. It does very quickly take over, so either keep chopping it hard back, or consider if it needs moving if it's hard to control there. Useful for cover - maybe on a fence boundary or something?
The other one to the left looks like a red hot poker. They are colourful mid to late summer.
What about growing something pretty up the trellises?
Sweetpeas? you have to plant those new every year, but they're great. The more you pick the more they flower. Or we had a new plant grown from seed last summer called Spanish Flag, which I'll try again and try to take better care of! it was also colourful but in a spot in our garden that was a bit too shady.
Pls don't b embarrassed about your garden. I think it'll look great, and u have obviously been preparing the ground very well : ))

Oh, those steps. Now I see them!! Oh yes, now I agree with previous comments about the planting either side of the steps. I would put climbers up the trellises too. Either sweet peas or morning glory.

Hello again Sunday,
I've just written a blog which i've meant to do for ages - you can make suggestions in return about improving our garden. Sometimes i feel as if i'm fighting a losing battle...
