Yoshi is a wonderful little character...he can be painfully vocal..his whistles can be heard for blocks!! no complaints from the neighbours, thankfully. I put his cage out on the back deck (with sun cover, of course) in the summer. He watches the sparrows in the birdhouse and calls to them to visit...but they're shy.

There he is Lori just been lookind at your lovely phots Yes they are hard to sex . I had 3 pairs in my avairy and I had to rehome them as they would not leave my other birds alone. They can be very nasty, It was a shame as they are a very pretty bird. Breeders reconmend that they are kept with other Love birds only. So I learnt my lesson the hard way.

thanks all!! Yes Donnah, my female died egg bound...I was away at the time...or she would have had a better chance...Yoshi was quite depressed for a long time afterward... I have a pair of budgees for him to chatter at...all three birds are males...and each has his own cage... I saw a bit on the internet recently about escaped lovebirds making homes for themselves in the saguaros and palm trees of the southwest US...They are fiesty little survivors...and you are so right...not tolerant of other species if kept in proximity. the article was about them as invaders...taking habitat from the native birds...
