Yes it's not at all attractive! I found it on one of the steps in the greenhouse.

How fascinating Berneih. What happens to it- does it grow another shell?

these things win the ugly bug contest!

Totally agree Floralhead - they're ugly and they're LOUD! The noise they make can be deafening out on the verandah during summer days!

I agree with that Bernieh.....They give me a headache after a while....something to do with the pitch of that humming/buzzing noise.

It's horrendous at time isn't it Gilli? There's literally hundreds of thousands of them out in the bushland around here ... I have to go inside, turn on the air-conditioner, put on music really loud just to get relief from the noise. It's unfortunate for me, but being a school teacher I get my longest holidays during the summer ... so I spend a great deal of time at home when these creatures are singing!

OMG.....we don't have that many at once here. Usually just a few. That's quite enough for me though.

LOL .. sorry Gilli I meant here as in the suburb I live in. Everywhere you go in this outlying rural suburb there are cicadas in the summer ... there's lots of bushland around here.

LOL....hoards of hungry cicadas.....sounds like it should have been a Hitchcock movie.
Ours don't get as big as yours by the looks of it either.....7 cm Wow.
