voodoo lily

I bought one of these through mail order several years ago. They said it would grow without soil or water. I planted it instead. They reproduce their own bulbs, so now I have several - too many to plant, so I give away the rest. The picture is of a bloom from a mother bulb. The small bulbs (produced from the mother bulb) take several years to bloom. The bloom comes first and then the foliage which is quite striking. I do not have pictures of the leaves available. Check out voodoo lily with an internet search to see the leaves. Many of my friends say the plant scares them. The only draw back is that the bloom only lasts a few days and smells like rotting meat and also attracts flies. It is a small inconvenience as the foliage is quite beautiful and will compliment any garden and lasts until late August. You plant these like a spring bulb and dig up to winter. I will post a photo of foliage in the coming season
