For the time of year this is fine and healthy Sid. You got 2 real bargains. The S. purpurea you could actually move outside when you like, especially if you start a little bog garden. They are 100% hardy. This one I would leave in the saucer of rainwater under glass for another few weeks but don't mollycoddle it. The S. flava is 98% hardy. I'll PM you the answer on peat.

John.

Thanks John :-) Some of the tops on this one are a bit dried out, but there is plenty of healthy looking growth too.

I don't know whether the purpurea has been hardened off, but I'll put it out somewhere sheltered then.

The drying out is normal in winter Sid. They go dormant for a while.

Oh, good Thanks for that. Should I remove the ones that are dying?

I just trim them off with a pair of sharp scissors. Too soft for secateurs.

If you click on the see who else has plants in this genus tab and you will see a pic of how my ones live Sid.
