Carla Garden seen from above. Can you see the peacock (fake)?

The Carla Garden was named after Hurricane Carla - the force of its winds created an opening in the woods and Miss Hogg decied to create a garden-in-the-round. It was originally designed around a large double trunk tree (which was destroyed by Hurricane Alicia). It was redesigned in 1970 by the landscape firm of Janet Osborn and Harriet Wagner.

Alicia did a lot of damage to Houston, I was staying with my mother at her home in The Woodlands at the time, (she had fallen out of a tree she was trimming and needed assistance for a while). A pine tree fell on her house and damaged the upper story. Newspapers had pics of the damages to Bayou Bend.

I heard Alicia was really bad, Wohlibuli and you've confirmed it...I'm still not quite used to living in a hurricane zone and always hope they will stay away! lol
