These are the males, the female is much paler grey.

I've never seen these. They seem like a fiesty bunch.

They are, but no more than most blackbirds. They don't build a nest, but lay their eggs in other birds nests, where they are raised by their surrogate parents, sadly often to the demise of their own chicks. It is nature's way of controlling the species and has a lot lesser impact on them than our actions do, however wrong it seems. It is rather hilarious to see a tiny chipping sparrow feeding a huge cowbird chick, lol, but thats her sweet baby....
