Garden visitors - wallabies playing chasey in the garden.

Garden visitors - wallabies playing chasey in the garden.

A group of males were chasing each other around the yard - establishing who is the more dominant. They made strange growling noises at each other and then take off in a mad hopping race around the yard.

Is it common to see them this close? Wonderful photo!

O yes Bloomers12345 - our property is out in the bush on the side of a hill and we see wallabies and other wildlife in the yard like this quite often. Our house is two-storey on one side and has a big vernadah around it - so we are up high looking down over this side of the yard and the wallabies seem to feel quite safe down there playing around.

Now I'd think of these as pests.

Actually Hywel these fellows do very little damage in our garden. They spend most of their time in the side and front yard eating the grass - which is well away from the most of my garden bed areas. Even though on the weekend they did race around under our trees out there - the trees are high enough for them to do that without causing any damage.

They look dangerous to me. No I don't think I'd want them thanks. lol

I just can't imagine having these around in my yard either...

Panther, we are very lucky here in this location - we see them eating grass on the verges of the roads around here and some of us are lucky enough to have them in our yards on a regular basis. Hywel they're not dangerous at all - if we go downstairs they will all jump away fairly quickly.

Don't they trample over your plants ? They don't look as though they'd be very careful where they tread.

Not at all Hywel. As I said just a little way above these lovelies stay in the side and front parts of our yard (our yard is around 1 acre of the 3 acres we own). These side and front bits are mostly all grass with a few trees and just two garden beds that are right up against the front of the house. So even when they were jumping around under the trees they were just jumping on the grass, and the grass we have is not the luscious green kind that you might spend a lot of time looking after - it's very hardy grass that is brown for most of the time (unless we get a great wet season as we did this year!) We do however have much more dangerous pests in the garden - snakes! I saw another today on my verandah - they are the pests around here!

I agree it's a beautiful thing to see, but the thought of them darting around the yard unexpectedly can be a bit worrysome. I wouldn't dare be in my garden when they come play chasey close by...lol
