Hello Andrewr can you tell me is the Reversion Camellia ( Rich Pink) growing on the same bush as the pale striped pink? or is it another bush? The Pale one is beautiful. I have a pale one simular but not the same, but it is not my most favourite as the flowers die and stay on the bush which is quite unsightly with all these brown flowers amongst the delicate pink, so I have to dead head it every day. This does not apply to the other four I have, where the flowers drop after they have gone past their best. Do you know if this is the type. I see there are Williamsii, Japonica and Leonard types but not sure which one the pale pink is. Hope you are knowlageable enough to help!

Yes it is telme8. The top third of the bush has the pink flowers; the bottom part has the striped ones. Several of the varieties with paler flowers don't drop the spent flowers - I agree it makes them look unsightly but that is nature for you.
C. japonica is a specie camellia, C.x williamsii is a hybrid, using C. japonica as one of the parents. I think the other one you mentioned is probably C. 'Leonard Messel' which is a named variety - this has C. x williamsii as one of its parents so has quite a complicated breeding history.
For more information about camellias, see my blog on them, written last month
