:-)
I have a favourite spot to sit (under my kitchen window) and the magnolia is about four metres away so I can really enjoy it. Actually I can see it from all the windows that look onto the garden. Eventually it is going to be very large, but that's fine by me - it's far enough from the house for roots not to be a problem and growth isn't so fast that I won't be able to manage it.
Obviously you know your garden and how it develops over the year, but your little magnolia will provide a great Spring focal point, and will hopefully one day be a BIG magnolia, so I'd say place where that works for you.
Right now the petals on mine have pretty much all dropped and the viburnum are about to take the flowering strain... aren't gardens great?!
