Patrick found this turkey vulture warming its wings in the early sunshine this morning. What a wingspan!

I have been informed that he's not warming his wings - this is called 'mantling', protecting his prey, in this case a dead raccoon. We learn something new every day!

Turkey vulture has to be one of the ugliest birds alive. I never saw one up close until last year when he was picking at a run over squirell in the road. I was mesmorized looking at it from my car window driving by. I never would have gotten that close unless I was in the car. It looked like it would have attacked. Yikes!
