The magnolia has dropped its petals (sob!) and the tulips are fading fast. The path to the (I hesitate to use the word) lawn looks a real mess... better do something about that. Viburnum is gearing up for a showing (was beset by aphids over the weekend but seems ok after a quick spray). The rain'll do it good.

It is, isn't it... am currently juggling witch hazel, ceanothus, corylus, fig, wisteria, hydrangea and passion flower. I had planned to plant in the raised bed beside the aztel pearl, but was surprised to discover that the aztec pearl will eventually grow to 2.5 x 2.5 metres, so it's plan B, which means whatever gets planted has to go next to the compost heap where the soil is dreadful - lots of small bits of coal mixed in with fragments of red brick and not very much earth - so I am doing what I can to improve things. Any other ideas for plants or soil improving hints?
