Mystery Clematis no longer! She's C. Gillian Blades

What a beauty! I hope someone is able to identify it.

Lori, my best guess is John Huxtable. Have a look at some pics of it on google images and see if you think that might be it. Let me know....K

Thanks K...I had a good look at Huxtable...but I'm sure this is not it... it's hard to see the mauve...it's so faint that it doesn't photograph well... this was the best shot I could get of the colour... it is pure white along the central vein of the petal and the edges are ripply with a mauve blush...I was so disappointed that it wasn't D of E...that I really lost interest in it... couldn't find a name to put to it...so frustrated I just moved on ... It only had one or two bloom last season...I'm hoping for better things this time.

I see Lori, we're looking for a definite Mauve here, not a purplish blue.....I'll think again!

Do you know, I think it might be Gillian Blades. Mine never had the mauve on it, it is just plain cream. But some pics. eg. at http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.chalkhillclematis.com/ have the mauve on it, and it certainly has the lovely crinkly edge and yellow anthers.......?

...and I notice that in the description it says that the mauve appears in cooler climes.....at any rate, we'll not give up on this...it's too lovely!

I think you are right, Karen... it looks like the pictures on a number of sites of Gillian Blades! Thank you very much! I was chuckling to myself as I read descriptions of it's less than vigorous growth but did find that it is a repeat bloomer ...so will deadhead all blossoms to see if I can encourage more growth and blossom...it was also mentioned that it blooms on late season growth...and frost/cold damage could be the reason for it's lack of blossom as well as it's colouration! very interesting var.

She is one of my very favourites! I'm so glad that we've cracked it! Hurrah! X
