under planting of the beech tree that cuts out lots of light in the summer.

yes dry shade always is the headache, but many plants are 'risked' and i very rarely water it. the trunk is a beech and it is at least 100 yrs old. there is hawthorn ash and conifers the other side of the fence too.

I have a shady spot in front of the house and there is no way as much colour. hubby has turned it into a sort of fernary so at least its green

slightly out towards the edge of the canopy that gets sun for the first 3hrs of the day in the summer i have fuchsia and phygellius. immediately behind the erythronium 'pagoda' there is the christmas box sarcco.... what ever it is called and it is doing well. i have several native ferns too as well as some from foreign climes. I like being able to have something in flower or looking good every month of the year.
