It was bought from Chapples Nursery in the New Forest. Over the years the name tag has probably rotted,Does anyone know the name?

Certainly a beauty love rhododendrons but so many cultivars ..wonder do the leaves have a brown downy appearance underneath?

Im thinking along the lines of R.arboreum but could be one of many , sorry thats not much help.

Not sure will look tomorrow, this goes back to the Seventys I associate the downy appearance with Yakushimanum Hybrids and dont think I started collecting them until later.
