normally they are of a deep ("brillant") pink. They avoid lime and need poor soil,maybe with some sands, and are living in heath..I have them in a special pot together wit pussy toe and some heather-like thing and sedum...

Yes, GT. There is only one I know to live in swamps or wet meadows, it is Lychnis flos-cuculi, the Cucoo-flower. with splitted petals, pink. The others are on the dry side, as You say. With sour (like this) or often limy soil. I like them all very much ane "nelke" is the german word for it. I have about ten in my balcony of this family.

Well forget anything "Dry" in my garden. "Wet" is what everything gets! I have some dry-er spots, but more than anything they're moist. And yet, I have poor soil! ha! I love the name "Dianthus..."

Well. PG, the most beautiful may be good to You: the cuccoo-flower like above and, what I called: the gypsy-queen of them all (Photo is already in!: Dianthus superbus). Both are wild ones, but get to great bushes and come back. Between grass and natural scenery very beautiful.

Hi Nelke, I just potted a pretty plant called Scaevola (?) Whirlwind White, that looks like a pretty little creeping Dianthus. I had it one day, and it looked like it was dying already! I decided to put it in a pot because I noticed it had a bug on it, and I didn't want to mix it with my other annuals. We'll see what happens to it.

HI, PG! Do You have a Pic of it? I never heard the name, that´s for sure. That only means, it seems to be not an Europaean wild Flower. ??? I looked in "FloraWeb.de", they havn´t it in.

I've a scaevola, the fanflower? In a hanging basket, I pinched it so it hasn't started yet. You might want to pinch back the branches if they get too long on the young plant, to stimulate branching.
