I've been looking in my grasses book but no luck yet with a black-leaved one. There's one called C.nigra which has dark flowers, or there's Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' which is really black! The one I want to find is Carex pendula - grows to 3' but has long drooping flowers up to 4 ft.6" high! Sounds so dramatic! Yes, there is an 'Evergold'.

Carex pendula is a British native - grew wild in the boggier parts of the woods when I lived in Essex. And yes, it is dramatic! It's a good plant - maybe you can get it from a place that supplies wild flowers?

This photo is of "Carex testacea" in Spritzhenry's garden
I love the carex grasses, I have a few in my garden that have grown well all through winter I think they are called evergold? I thought I would plant some of the black leaved carex, do you know their name?
