Grim the Collier (Hieracium aurantiacum)

Great photo, and great name.... where does "Grim the Collier" come from?

I looked it up in Richard Mabey's Flora Brittanica. but even he doesn't know,but even in 17th century was thought 'Idle and Fooolish'. He gives another name is 'Fox and Cubs', which is more understandable. I'm just waiting for a few more blooms to show and will take another picture.

Glad you like it Sandra, but watch out for it spreading . It spreads by seed as well as runners. Despite their spreading I also like Pilosella and Hieracium maculatum. They all give me extra weeding but I still welcome them.

One of my favourite plants also. As you say, a little bit of a thug (vegetively and by seed!) but still has it's own charm and beauty.

ummm i now have loads of it...lol its still lovely though
