Thankyou. I saw this recently at Beth Chatto's garden and just wished now that I found out its name - any idea?

It's beautiful, sorry don't know it's name. The leaf in the back looks like clematis, but not the flower.... Welcome :)

Thankyou for the welcome. My instinct is to say its a single peony but as I took this photo on 20 May I thought was too early for peonies to be flowering?

It's lovely - it wouldn't be a tree peony would it? Not sure when they flower though!

We are going to Beth's tomorrow week, so if they are flowering still I'll find out

Also think it might be tree peony - kind of flower you see in old Chinese silk.
