thanks Eileen, my mums gardener says that these are thugs that spread seed all around the garden, i was hoping that it would do but i have never had one grow anywhere else...think i will leave the dead heads on a bit longer this year.

Mine do! So yes, leave the stems and see. I am hoping that my new variegated ones do as well - :-)

Called S.s. 'Aunt May'. They are not as tall as the usual ones, and apparently not as vigorous, but I really like them and want some more for my new bed-under-construction!

they will look lovely Spritz, a bit of creamy lemon to brake up the dark burgandys i know you are planning will look stunning.

I already have lots of pots outside the greenhouse waiting to go in, Angie, I am lacking 'Aunt May in particular. I actually made a list!!

it does'nt all have to go in at once does it anyway....... having said that i know you are like me and will not be able to leave gaps for things you are missing...any bare soil has to be covered does'nt it lol...how about just plonking a few annuals of simular colours until you get all the lovely perennials that you want, then you will be able to take your time looking for the right plants, rather than settling for you'll do's to fill gaps...if that makes sense..i know that works for me.... i have a few areas like that in my garden...i say i have no space but i do have areas taken up at the moment with bedding and annuals that are just hiding gaps for now, as i have'nt yet decided or come accross what i really want there, it also give the shrubs time to get bigger,,,another weekness of mine is to plant too close, as i hate the gaps inbetween..i also find this helps...what i do now is get large pots and put them in where i know i want to plant things then put all the annuals around them so that i know where the gaps are...lol
