I grew up in Cornwall, Bobg, so I'm happy to be back near the sea, even if it's on the other side of the ocean. Point Pleasant Park is a wonderful park in Halifax, our provincial capital, which is a 2-hour drive from us. It has waterfront on 3 sides, and overlooks the mouth of the harbour. The park was very seriously hit by Hurricane Juan in September 2003. Here's a link - there are several pages: http://beacon.chebucto.ca/Photo_Album/PPPark2003/

Hells teeth!! what was the category of that storm? To pick-up rocks and hurl them on the lawn and to just snap tree's like that, I remember seeing news reports about it but I did'nt realise the sheer power of it all. I bet that was scary?

Just a Category 2 here! Take a look, Bobg: http://www.atl.ec.gc.ca/weather/hurricane/juan/summary_e.html
In fact, we didn't experience the actual storm as we only moved here the following March, but damage to the shorelines and waterfront properties was of course still obvious. The hurricane was followed by what came to be known as 'White Juan' in late February, 2004, a ferocious snowstorm that dumped so much snow on Nova Scotia that we had to delay our move from Montreal by a week.

We sure get weather here!! We can see it coming too, across the bay to the south-west or from the ocean to the south-east. We are sheltered somewhat from the cold north winds by our woods. This hilltop house is built to withstand such winds, but the glass in the windows sure bows!

Jeepers! what lovely weather you have :o))) And we complain up here in Manchester. I remember one year when we went to Disneyland in California then on to Hawaii. The weather, as usual, was lovely all week and on the thursday night, as we were flying on to the Islands the following saturday morning, El Nino hit the west coast, we had a terrific storm in the night that knocked out all the power, and it turned the weather completely upside down, all day friday it was glorious sunshine in Seattle and cold winds and rain down California. We took off on the Saurday and we all had to keep our seatbelts fatened for at least 50mins into the flight, even the hostesses wouldnt move, the plane took off and was seesawing from side to side whilst climbing, we had the C.N.N. news on that night and they showed our flight taking off, it was more frightening watching it.

Oh Elke what a lovely place to live so close to the sea, that would be really nice, I'll have to talk to my wife and go retire to the coast.
I had a friend that had a vacation in Nova Scotia and he showed me some pictures of a 'Point Pleasant park' I think it was called, and they were stupendous, is that close to you?
