Leaves.
Only young leaves - raw or cooked these are used as a potherb. The plant is a short-lived annual, but its seeds can germinate at almost any time of the year, because of this the leaves are often available all year round.

The whole plant is astringent, diaphoretic, diuretic, purgative and styptic. If the plant is boiled it is very good for checking any kind of haemorrhage. Freshly bruised leaves can be applied to external cuts and wounds quickly stopping any bleeding.
