thanks paul, there wasn,t much we could do with it, the top is almost level with the bedroom windows and its clay soil, my son got hold of some railway sleepers and did it for me, and we put a load of top soil down which helped with clay.

Yes, clay is my problem too but over the years it can be improved with manure, compost, grit, sand etc
