thanks all...yesssss it is a real beauty, some of these flower stems are as tall as me (5ft 7") i have managed to propergate some too, last year i had loads of little bulblets inbetween the leaves, have never seen this before, so i took them off and potted them up. and i now have lots of babies :-)

At an open garden yesterday, I saw a really gorgeous BLACK Lily - but the owner had thrown the packaging away and couldn't remember its name... GRRRRR!

It does prove that they are available, though! As the village was quite close to the big GC I frequent, I shall keep my eyes peeled in a few weeks' time!

Asiatic or Orential? the darkest one i know of is an Orential called 'Landinii' - not sure if spelt right though.. although there are some Asiatic varieties that have a darker centre but lighter on the tips if that makes sense.

I don't know, Angie - the clump was tall, about 4 - 5 ', I suppose, and the flowers were wholly black, no lighter tips or centres, just - well - black!

did the flowers face upwards or outwards? were the leaves thin and rubbery looking or more ovel and moss green, mat looking..?
