Like you, everyone I know including myself have always called them daddy longlegs.. I believe they aren't actually spiders, and are probably confused with the true daddy longleg spiders, which we also have here.
As long as they do their part eating insects, they're all good :D

I've always called them dandy longlegs as well, Tastey. Used to avoid stepping on them in fear it would cause rain!

I normally call this type of spider, 'daddy longlegs'... Jeff (my honey) informed me that these were not actually daddy longlegs but something else (which I forget). I told my friend this story and her comeback was for me to tell Jeff that they were called 'Papa Too-talls', lol. I thought that was hilarious! So now that's what I call them just to be a smarty-pants ;~)
