Thanks for your kind comments, both. I got the idea from a Christopher Lloyd book - he said the patrinia was a good companion for verbena bonariensis. I grew it from seed in 2007 and this is its first year flowering. I kept pleading with it last year, but it didn't take any notice. It's lovely, though, I think.

Have you ever been to Great Dixter, Sbg? We used to be able to, when we lived in Kent. I've got several of his books, too.

no sadly not but we did have Fergus Garrett at one of our hps sessions. i got a couple of books then. Fergus was clearly still very upset after Christopher died as it wasnt that long after he came to talk.
he had stunning photos of the garden and they certainly had wow factor.
