DD - the only way to get rid of it is with repeated applications of the regrowth with glysophate weedkiller. Even then it might take two or three years.

I actually like the plant, it was just enormous!! and yet trying to get Acanthus Whitewater to grow is almost impossible, two years down the line it is still struggling to reach 6 ins!! moved twice thinking it could be the soil...
