Another fascinating plant Andrew, I have just looked it up and found 'This waterlily blooms if the bulb put where it is light. No soil or water is necessary. Planted in the soil after blossom it begin to sprout in February and withers in early summer. It looks like a cluster amaryllis in the sense it has no leaves in blossom and no flower when it has leaves. It is a kind of iris'. Is that correct and how is it classified?

mine is growing in the soil, the flowers come up in the autumn and then leaves appear in the spring!

Drc - Sticki is right, it grows quite happily in the soil with leaves in spring (which die untidily in early summer) and flowers in autumn. It's classed in the liliaceae family
