Siris - these are growing practically underneath a shrub, so its difficult to get in and remove the fallen leaves (which is why I don't bother). I think the mulch is a good idea as it would mimic the conditions they get in the wild.

I wasn't being critical of your housekeeping. Might just chop the leaves up a bit, put a little around, then they are not so slimy.

Another nice size clump. I notice you leave your fallen leaves around the plant, they being woodlanders. Do you think mine would appreciate a mulch of (1 year old) incompletely-rotted leaf mould?
